We snagged seats on top and caught some of Clew Bay’s cold liquid sunshine for a bit before the sun came out and warmed things up a bit. There are 365 small islands in the bay, and we saw a good many of them. The helpful staff and location get good marks from fellow travelers. A bar/lounge, a fitness center, and a snack bar/deli are other highlights. Guests can indulge in massages or aromatherapy, and Maddens Bistro serves lunch and dinner. We had spectacular views of Ireland’s holy mountain, Croagh Patrick, cruised past lively colonies of curious seals, and viewed a couple of bayside homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, along with an island purchased by John Lennon (who evidently had never experienced a Clew Bay winter). Clew Bay Hotel offers an airport shuttle (available 24 hours) for EUR 45 per person roundtrip. The cruise includes running commentary by a member of the crew, highlighting points of interest as the boat makes its way out into Clew Bay. Its accommodations include (for those of you who don’t mind an occasional rain storm) rows of seats up top, more seats in the enclosed heated cabin below, toilets, and spirits and coffee bar. The tour, roughly an hour and a half, is provided by Westport Cruises on board a comfortable, well-appointed 45-foot boat called the Spiorad Naomh Pádraig-the Spirit of St. The Westport Coast is a luxury 4 Star Hotel right on the waterfront about a mile from the town centre. One of the highlights of our visit to Westport was the harbor tour, which departs from almost the very end of Westport Quay, easily reachable from the middle of town.
